Obituary
David Lee Roberts, 52, of Tabor, Iowa passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska following a courageous, 16-year battle with cancer.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fremont-Mills Community School in Tabor, Iowa. Pastor Ricky Billingsley will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Tabor.
David was born June 22, 1958 in Cherokee, Iowa to Bob and LaVon (Peck) Roberts. He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1976. He earned his teaching degree from Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Sheryl Bagley on June 28, 1982. They were blessed with two children, Nathan and Abby. Dave taught and coached in the Fremont-Mills School District beginning in 1982 to present. While there, he taught both junior high and high school sciences and industrial arts classes. Throughout the years, he coached basketball, football, track, volleyball, and golf. He also organized the annual Junior class science trip to Chicago, IL. He served as a Tabor City Councilman for many years, and was the current mayor. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and driving the country roads. He also enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and golf.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jon; maternal grandparents, Henry and Irene Peck; paternal grandparents, Ray and Ellen Roberts; and his father-in-law, Richard Bagley.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryl; son, Nate and his girlfriend, Mandy of Tabor; daughter, Abby Howenstein, and her husband, Jeff of Alton, IL; parents, Bob and Lavon Roberts of Cherokee, IA; brother, Dan and his wife Kelley, of Norfolk, NE; sisters, Lori Ebel, and her husband, Kirk of Fort Dodge, IA; Kelly Pitts and her husband, Mike of Cherokee, IA; mother-in-law, Geraldine Bagley of Urbandale, IA; sister-in-law, Kathy Rhoads and her partner, Ron Mill of Johnston, IA; brother-in-law, Bob Bagley of Urbandale, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
