DAVID PAUL VAN DYKE , 96, of Marcus, Iowa formerly of rural Meriden, Iowa passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2018 in the Heartland Care Center at Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253, V.F.W. Visitation will be on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until service time at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .
Paul was born on March 22, 1922 at New Brunswick, New Jersey to David B. and Harriet (Pettit) Van Dyke. He graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1940. After high school he entered the U.S. Air Corps serving in World War II as a tail gunner on a B-24. After returning from war, he was a sheet metal worker for International Local #27 in New Jersey. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed bowling and taking care of his house and yard. He was a devoted father and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.
He is survived by three children: Karen (Darrel) Luty of Somerset, New Jersey; Kevin (June) Van Dyke of Fort Collins, Colorado; Kyle (Merry) Van Dyke Planesboro, New Jersey; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Grieco, Jason Luty, Justin Van Dyke, Ashley Beth Kirkley, Shannon Joy Dambrowski, Greyson Kyle Van Dyke, and Ryder Sutton Van Dyke; seven great grandchildren: Amanda Grieco, Kelly Grieco, George Grieco, Jaiden Kirkley, Keighly Kirkley, Everett Dambrowski, and Ethan Van Dyke. Two sisters, Gloria Malloy of Pittsburg, California; Wanda (Frank) Lamano of Concord, California, and sister-in-law Noni Van Dyke of Somerset, New Jersey; also several nieces and nephews.
