She was born on December 29, 1963 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Roger and Glenda (Igou) Updike.  She was the oldest of six kids.

Her family moved from Aurelia, Iowa to Marcus, Iowa when Dawn was in the 4 th grade.  Dawn graduated from Marcus High School in 1983.

Dawn held many jobs in her 58 years of life.  Some include Casey's General Store in Marcus, Mom's Kitchen in Marcus, and Careage Hills in Cherokee.  Her latest job was at Pizza Hut in Cherokee, where she traveled a lot to many locations within the company.

Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Tiffany Updike and fiancé, Roger McChesney, and granddaughter, Berkley McChesney, Tera Brockhaus and special friend, Robert Welch and her two grandkids, Kyzer Brockhaus and Saylor Dawn Updike; her significant other, Steve Crane and his children Kelly (Aaron) Wiese of Cherokee, Keith (Melissa) Crane of Cherokee along with grandkids, Chase (Josie) Wiese, Evan Appleby, and MaCaib Appleby; siblings include, Roger (Brenda) Updike of Spencer, Teresa Updike of Sioux City, Iowa, Michelle (Cliff) Nelson of Cherokee, Sherry Vodraska of Cherokee, Ricki (Sarah) Updike of Sheldon, Iowa, and Rick Miller of Marcus; countless, nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the Midwest.

Her grandchildren were her world.  Other hobbies include spending time with family.  Baking was another thing she loved.  She always said she would quit Pizza Hut in a heartbeat to open her own bakery.  She was famous for her potato salad.  She was always the life of the party.

She enjoyed her cousin getaways; our motto is cousins by family, sisters by choice.

Preceding her in death is her parents, Roger Updike in 2020 and Glenda (Igou) Updike in 2004, grandparents, William and Erma (Adams) Updike and Glenn and Elva (Daldorf) Igou;  brother-in-law, Doug Vodraska in 2019; niece Kristina Updike in 1988; and great nephew Elyjah Nehman in 2019.
