Della Margaret (Pinegar) Edwards, 76 of Washta, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. As she began her journey to the Lord, she was surrounded in the love of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30th, at 10:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Father Daniel Guenther will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Della Margaret Pinegar was born March 29, 1939 at Des Moines, Iowa to William and Alyce (Good) Pinegar.
She attended schools in Des Moines and later earned her GED in 1971 through a program at Washington High School, Cherokee, Iowa. She later earned her Certified Nurse's Aide and Activity Coordinator certifications through Western Iowa Tech. On July 31, 1954 she married Glenn Finley Edwards Sr. at Indianola, Iowa. She worked for Katz Drug Store and Flo Inn in Des Moines, Elm Street Nursing Home and Country Sides Estates in Cherokee, and the Good Samaritan Home in Holstein. She later owned and operated D's Café in Washta, Iowa for many years. She was raised mostly in Des Moines where she started her family, but eventually arrived in Cherokee County and lived on an acreage west of Washta for the past 42 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. She enjoyed collecting dolls, crocheting, working in her flower gardens, bird watching, baking, making sweets, and making meals for her family. She also enjoyed travelling all around the United States with family and friends and really loved the time she was able to spend in Hawaii.
She is survived by her children: Alyce (John) Spengler of Quimby, Iowa; Glenn Edwards Jr. of Washta, Iowa; Richard (Sharon) Edwards of Cherokee, Iowa; Carmen Heath and special friend Larry Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; Dotty (Richard) Hoppe of Wall Lake, Iowa; Linda (James) Kolpin of Aurelia; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Siblings: William (Mary) Pinegar of Montezuma, Iowa; Carol (Larry) Mace of Marshfield, Ohio; and Joseph (Kathy) Pinegar of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn F. Edwards Sr on May 20, 1998; parents William and Alyce (Good) Pinegar; siblings George Pinegar, Dennis Pinegar, Deborah Wallace, and sister -in-law Elaine Pinegar.
