DeLores A. Blades, 89, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at her residence in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18 th at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Pastor Kathy Martin will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. For those people who do not feel comfortable attending the service in the church, you can drive up to the church parking lot and listen to the funeral service on your car radio on channel FM 100.5.
DeLores was born to Harold and Viola (Brouwer) Bornholtz on March 30, 1931 at Sioux City, Iowa. She attended the Lincoln District # 6 Country School and then graduated from Leeds High School in 1948. She attended college at the Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City for three years graduating in 1952. She married Jack A. Blades on August 24, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked as an office nurse for Dr. J.L. Wiedemeier for 43 years and then went to work for the Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in medical records. She and her husband lived in Cherokee from 1975 until she returned to Sioux City in 2010 to be closer to her family.
DeLores was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church. She was active in the community groups of Order of the Eastern Star, Daughter's of the Nile, the Methodist church, Shrine Auxillary, Cherokee Shrine Ladies, and a past matron of Azure Chapter No. 540. DeLores enjoyed flowers, reading, and taking care of older people.
DeLores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack on April 1, 2010, one son Scott Blades in 1998, and a daughter Starla Cason in 2002.
DeLores is survived by her daughter: Sheryl (Tim) Wilcox of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Brenda Blades of Milliken, Colorado, her siblings: Carmen (Janice) Bornholtz of Sioux City, Iowa; Marlene(Curt) Vanderloo of Merrill, Iowa, Von and Vickie Bornholtz of Sioux City, Iowa, ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
