Obituary

DELORES ANN SHORT, 75, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, December 26, 2012 at her residence in Cherokee.

Private family visitation and sharing of memories will be held Saturday, December 29th, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Public visitation will be on Friday, December 28th, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com The family request that memorials be made to the

Delores was born June 7, 1937 at Lyons, Nebraska to Richard Pounds Jr. & Lena (Breault) Pounds. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1954. She was married to Donald E. Short Sr. on May 6, 1956 at Bronson, Iowa. She had lived in Cherokee since 1976, prior to this had lived in Cabot, Arkansas and Grand Forks, North Dakota. She had worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute from 1968 until 1983. From 1983 until 1988 she traveled with her husband in the Boogie Machine cross country delivering goods, visiting family and friends. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. She loved bowling, playing the slots, Nascar driver Jeff Gordon and was an avid sports fan watching the Hawkeyes, Raiders, Lakers, and the Yankees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on October 8, 1988, and her son
Donald Short Jr.

She is survived by her children: Diana (Robert) Jackson of Tacoma, Washington; Denise (Jay) Freeman of LaPlatte, Maryland; Delia (Charles) Edwards of Westby, North Dakota; Darrell (Shellie) Short of Cherokee, Iowa; daughter-in-law Dina Short of Phillips, Maine;
11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; her siblings: Violet (Herman) Thomas of Sioux City, Iowa; Connie (Pat) Kenney of Leeds, Iowa; Joyce Renkin of LeMars, Iowa; Larry (Pat) Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; Carol (Larry) Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska; John (Cindy) Searls of Sioux City, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
