DERALD F. HAND , 71, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, April 11, 2019 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date. It was Derald's wish to be cremated and there be no visitation or formal services. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Derald was born on September 3, 1947 at Storm Lake, Iowa to Donald and Emma (Patten) Hand. He graduated from Sioux Valley Community High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. He met his wife Sharon Jackson in 1975. They were later married in Estherville, Iowa. He had worked as an auto mechanic for several years and also at Tyson Foods in Cherokee until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lion's Club. He had been a resident of Cherokee for many years.
Derald enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes, including model ships, hunting, fishing, camping, auto mechanics and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Payton Hand and a great granddaughter Kathryn Elizabeth Hand.
He is survived by his nine children: Troy (Brandy) Cavet of Grandbury, Texas; Tina (Armando) Morales of Wahoo, Nebraska; Kathryn (Leslie) Lucas of Garland, Texas; Kelly (Mary) Hand of Cherokee, Iowa; Teresa Hand (Ryan Steffen) of Germantown, Iowa; Tammi Siebrecht of Omaha, Nebraska; Todd Hand of Sante Fe, Texas; Donald (Jessica) Hand of Sioux City, Iowa; Shawn Hand (Christle Baker) of Marcus, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one brother: George Hand of Spencer, Iowa.
