Obituary

DEWITT  E. "BUD"  SONES , 85, of Cherokee, Iowa and formerly of Quimby, Iowa passed away suddenly Friday evening, October 12, 2018 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 17 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Quimby Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Bud was born on November 2, 1932 on a farm in Silver Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to George & Cora (Wright) Sones. He attended Quimby Consolidated Schools. He served in the United States Navy for four months, until being honorably discharged because of a vision issue. He was married to Luella Sexton on March 28, 1953 at Spencer, Iowa. He and his wife operated the Tall Corn Inn in Quimby for several years, retiring in 1980. Bud enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Luella on December 4, 2010, a sister Averil Dodge, and two brothers D.A. Sones, and Doyle Sones.

He is survived by his two sons: Gene W. Sones of Dawson, Texas; Steve (Linda) Sones of Quimby, Iowa; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Jennifer (Wade) Stevens and their daughter Kenna of Aurelia, Iowa; Shana (Jason) Jumpier and their daughter Riley of Burleson, Texas; also several nieces and nephews.
