Obituary

DOLORES "DODIE" GAYDO, 78, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday morning, July 16, 2012 at Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 25th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Father Gene Sitzmann will officiate. Visitation will on Tuesday,
July 24th from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from
6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Dodie was born July 25, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Irene (Rudnick) Schoemaker. She graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois in 1951. She was married to John William Gaydo on May 16, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. The couple lived in Rolling Meadows, Illinois from 1960 until 1973, Albert Lea, Minnesota from 1973 until 1977 when they moved to the Cherokee area. She was a great mother raising two children. She and her husband went into the bowling business in 1973 with her family owning Bob's Lanes in Albert Lea, Minnesota until purchasing the Cherokee Bowl in 1977. Dodie also worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for several years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was a former member of the Chicago Women's Bowling Association and the Albert Lea Mix League Bowling Association. She was a member of the Cherokee Women's Bowling Association. She enjoyed time spent with her family, bowling, boating, sledding, word finds, puzzles and old movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on December 25, 1997, a brother Charles Schoemaker, mother-in-law and father-in-law Helen and John A. Gaydo, a nephew Richard Quan.

She is survived by two sons: William John "Bill" Gaydo and his wife Cindy of Schaumburg, Illinois; Timothy Paul "Tim" Gaydo and his wife Jennifer of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Bill & Amy; Kyle, Kody & Bailey; one great grandson Connor; one brother William (Lena) Schoemaker of San Diego, California; sisters Marsha Hedberg (Bill) Klinger of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Mary (John) Connolly of Schaumberg, Illinois; Tom (Jean) Quan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephews and nieces Katie, Johnny, Andrea, Kelly, Maureen, Erin, Mike, Jennifer, Mark, Willy, Lorene and Aileen.
