Obituary
DONA JEAN TOWNSEND, 82, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday evening, December 10, 2010 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan D. Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Dona was born September 14, 1928 on a farm south of Cleghorn, Iowa to Ray & Martha (Fuhrman) Townsend. She attended country grade school until the family moved to Cherokee in 1946. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1947. She lived with her parents on West Cherry St. Dona worked for J.C. Penny's for a short time and had also worked at the Cherokee Work Activity Center for several years. She had been a resident of Careage Hills in Cherokee since 1999. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Glen, Lloyd and Darold Townsend, one sister Ethel Small.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
