DONALD E. GREEN , 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon, October 21, 2018 in Careage Hills.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 25 th , at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Private burial of the cremains with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. It was Don's wish to be cremated and there be no visitation. Donald was born on September 28, 1928 at Cherokee, Iowa to Lester & Lillian (Pierce) Green. He graduated from Wilson High school in 1948. He was married to Delores Wolff on September 10, 1950 at Cherokee, Iowa. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 5, 1951 until March 5, 1953. He and his brother Pierce owned and operated a gas station in Cherokee for 10 years, and later owned and operated the Culligan Soft Water business together for 28 years; after that he worked for the Cherokee County Maintenance Dept. for several years, until his retirement.
Donald was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Speculative Masonic Lodge #307 A.F. & A.M., Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, Iowa, Cherokee Fire Department serving as Assistant Fire Chief for several years, and belonged to two card clubs. Donald enjoyed golfing, traveling, cooking, and watching football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Pierce (Della) Green, sister Virginia (Charles) Crocker, his in-laws Renny & Mabel Wolff.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Delores, four daughters: Nancy (Mark) Napier of Cherokee, Iowa; Molly (Harry) Stine of Adel, Iowa; Dian Bush (Steve Dolph) of LeMars, Iowa; Beth (Ray) Henry of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
