DONALD L. MEYER, 66, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, April 14, 2016 at Cherokee Specialty Care.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, Iowa. Pastor Donald J. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa at a later date. Military rites will follow the church services by Lyle Barnes Post #398 of the American Legion and L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Don was born on February 8, 1950 at Wayne, Nebraska to DeLoyd and Bernice (Echtenkamp) Meyer. He was raised in the Pender area where he attended country schools and public schools. After graduation in 1968, he entered the Air Force from 1969 until 1973. He was baptized in 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Nebraska. He was confirmed in June of 1964. Don and Linda Zimmerman were united in marriage on December 10, 1983 at Washta, Iowa. The couple moved to Quimby. Soon after moving to Quimby, Don worked for Smith Feedyards in Washta for many years and later for Denny Rupp in Quimby. He retired in 2005 due to health issues. Don enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with family, and long conversations with friends from the Air Force. He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Town and Country Club, Lyle Barnes Post #398 of the American Legion of Quimby, L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his father DeLoyd Meyer.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of 33 years, his mother Bernice Meyer Hogan of Wayne, Nebraska, his children, Brad (Natalia) Meyer of Lincoln, Nebraska; Chris Meyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Kenley Meyer and his fiancé Liz Runge of Leeds, Iowa; Ashley Meyer of Quimby, Iowa; four adopted daughters: McKenzie, Brittany, Karen and Kimberly Meyer all of Quimby. two grandchildren, Brody and Natalie Meyer; two brothers and one sister; Glendon (Lorie) Meyer of Pender, Nebraska; DeLoyd (Diana) Meyer Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska; Kathleen (Dale) Baker of Lincoln, Nebraska; mother-in-law Rita Zimmerman of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Sandra (Robert) Stoffregen of Lake View, Iowa; brother-in-law Steven (Lucy) Zimmerman of Milford, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.
