He was married to Zepherine "French" Giroux at Graceville, Minnesota on June 13, 1949. After his schooling, he farmed in Minnesota and then drove a route for Swift Creamery in Minnesota before moving to Cherokee. He moved to Cherokee in 1962 with his recently widowed mother and his three children.

He drove Allied Van Lines with his brother, Howard Miller of Cherokee from 1962-1963 and then worked for Rock Island Lumber from 1963 to 1964. He worked as a loading dock forklift driver at Wilson Foods when it first opened and became a company foreman for the loading dock. In 1974, he stopped working for Wilson Foods and owned and operated Reeves Apartments and other properties in Cherokee until retiring in 1992.
