Obituary

DONNA JEAN  HAMMOND , 69, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away suddenly at her residence on Friday morning, July 20, 2018.

A luncheon and time of sharing memories will be held on Friday, July 27 th at Jobies Pastime Lounge in Cherokee from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Donna was born on April 17, 1949 at Westfield, Iowa to Donald & Mable (Rogers) Harms. She attended schools in Greenville and Rossie, graduating from Clay Central High School in 1967. She was married to Gordon Hammond on May 8, 1999 at Cherokee, Iowa. Later in her life, she attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Cherokee receiving a degree in accounting. Donna had worked for several local businesses as a secretary and bookkeeper, retiring in 2015. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and spending time with her pet dog Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Ellen Snyder, brothers Ed and Roger Harms, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George and Richard Hammond, Bob Brown, Deanna Faye Hammond, Kim Powers and Carol (Bob) Beck.

She is survived by her husband Gordon of Cherokee, Iowa; three step-children and four step- grandchildren: Beckie Bown and children Ethan & Austin of Arcadia, Wisconsin; Cynde (Larry) Stone and children Brianna & Serena of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Brady (Michelle) Hammond of Houston, Texas; her brother Larry Harms of Gillette Grove, Iowa; her sister Karen (Bill) Burkhardt of Cherokee, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Cynthia Snyder, Jeff (LeAnn) Burkhardt, Josh (Vanessa) Harms, and Katie Burkhardt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Sandra Harms of Greensboro, North Carolina; Koreen (Bud) Tharp of Cherokee, Iowa; John (Dorie) Hammond of Ellsworth, Kansas; Patricia Brown of Overton, Nevada; Peggy Nagel of Cherokee, Iowa; Steve (Margaret) Hammond of Simi Valley, California; Dennis Altman of New Lebanon, Ohio; also many Hammond nieces and nephews and many friends.
