DORIS M. STROUD, 78, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Doris was born April 5, 1931 at LeMars, Iowa to Adolph and Emma (Krekow) Brandt. She grew up in the rural Marcus area. She attended Tilden Township Country School, Amherst Country School, graduating from Marcus High School in 1949. She attended Mankato Business College for one year. She was married to Bud Stroud on June 4, 1950. The couple had lived in Cherokee since 1950. She worked as a secretary for attorney Mark Bancroft for a short time and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture from 1956 until retiring on October 3, 1986. She was a member of NARFE, the Trinity Lutheran Church of Cherokee and rural Marcus, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid of rural Marcus, Iowa and the Sheriff's Association Auxiliary. She volunteered for the Cherokee County Fairgrounds doing mowing for several years. She enjoyed reading, "puttering" around the house, traveling and visiting family in California and friends in Arizona.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law; Kenneth and Florence Brandt, Emory and Fern Brandt, and Donald and Lucy Brandt.
She is survived by her husband Darrel "Bud" Stroud of Cherokee, Iowa; her daughter Pam Ogella and her husband Ron of Madera, California; one granddaughter Mara Ogella of Madera, California; one great granddaughter Bailey Herring; several nieces and one nephew.
