Obituary

DUANE  V.  HAASE , 86, of rural Paullina, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 30, 2021 in the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3 rd , at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Tyler Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday, August 2 nd ,   from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Duane was born on April 16, 1935 at Scotland, South Dakota to Libbert and Freida (Schneider) Haase. He attended country school through the 8 th grade and then high school in Scotland and Tripp, South Dakota, and finished his high school education  in the service, serving his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1957 as a Seaman 1 st Class.

Duane was married to Lucille Herr on September 5, 1958 at Tripp, South Dakota. He worked on a farm as a hired man for 10 years and then started farming on his own in 1969 for the rest of his life.

Duane was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed watching westerns on the television, along with watching the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, an infant son Mark in 1967, three brothers Melvin, Clarence and Marvin Haase.

He is survived by his wife Lucille; one son: Brian Haase of Paullina, Iowa; his sister Marlene Koehn of North Charleston, South Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Arlo (Maydene) Dewald of Parkston, South Dakota; Wilmer (Wilma) Herr of Tripp, South Dakota; Harvey (Maxine) Herr of Littleton, Colorado; a special cousin Laurine Taylor of Los Gatos, California.
