Obituary

EDITH E. BYERLY STREED, 94,of Sun City West, Arizona and former longtime Cherokee, Iowa resident, passed away Friday evening, September 20, 2013 in Sun City, Arizona.

Edith was born January 3, 1919 in Aurelia, Iowa to Dave and Judith (Helene) Polston. She attended country school in Diamond Township. She was married to Joseph Byerly on June 5, 1942. She was later married to Orville Streed in 1968

Edith worked nights as a nurse's aide at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for 19 years. She made many friends and loved to share stories of their experiences. During afternoon hours she gave many haircuts and perms to friends and neighbors. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, making holiday crafts and loved to fish. She spent many hours on the river bank with her children and a picnic basket. She was a member of the Cherokee Villa Auxiliary for 25 years, serving at secretary for two years. Edith was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed helping with MYF when her children were involved. Edith enjoyed planting flowers and tomatoes plants in the spring. The flowers surrounding her patio were beautiful in the summer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Joseph Byerly and Orville Streed, sons Garry and Terry Byerly, daughter Carolyn Lauer, and a sister Doris Jean Polston.

She is survived by her daughters; Sharon (Rich) McAndrews of Sun City West, Arizona, Connie (Chuck) Taravella of Brackettville, Texas; Judy (Jon) Dougherty of Sutherland, Iowa; her son David (Brenda) Byerly Falls City, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law Judy Byerly of Salt Lake City, Utah; step-children Tom (Jean) Streed of Spencer, Iowa, Nancy Noethe of Spencer, Iowa, Bonnie (Don) Cother of Dickens, Iowa; her 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one brother-in-law Jay (Kathy) Byerly of Bothell, Washington; one sister-in-law Viola Byerly of Cherokee, Iowa
