LaVonne was born on December 13, 1921 in Cleghorn, Iowa to Emanuel and Agnes (Peterson) Wallin. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1939. She was baptized, confirmed and married in Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa (formerly Carmel Lutheran Church). She met a handsome young man from Marcus, Charles Rae (while rollerskating in Marcus) and they were married December 27, 1942. After their marriage, they left for California where Charles was stationed with the USMC. Charles was being shipped out to unknown destinations in the Pacific so LaVonne returned to Cleghorn to be with her parents on the farm. In 1946 they departed the military life and started farming in rural Meriden, Iowa. Two children were born to this marriage, Charles Rae Jr., and Cynthia Beth. They left the farm life in 1959 and moved to Newcastle, Wyoming. In 1965 they returned to Iowa and settled in Sioux City. LaVonne worked briefly at Younker Davidson in Sioux City then became employed at Home Federal Savings and Loan Assoc, where she worked for 23 years until retirement.
She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (a non-collegiate sorority), American Business Women's Assoc, The Red Hat Society and currently American Legion Auxiliary Unit 486 Cleghorn, Ia. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City from 1965 to 2018 when she transferred membership to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and long time caregiver Cynthia of Cherokee, niece Karen (Tom) Riedemann of Cherokee, nephew Warren Wallin of Omaha, niece Anita Shutt of Spirit Lake, niece Sandra Dau of Spirit Lake , nephew Craig Wallin, sister in law Luella Wallin, several cousins and many dear friends and her Home Federal girls.
