Ed was born on May 31, 1912 at Vilas, South Dakota to Joseph & Grace Maddox. He was married to Melba on June 7, 1945 at Storm Lake, Iowa. He had worked for the John Morrell Co. for 25 years before purchasing the A & W Restaurant in Cherokee, Iowa. He and his wife, with their children by his side operated Eddie's A & W Drive-In for 12 years. He later became a health inspector for both Iowa and Montana. Ed also earned his real estate license in Oregon, where he worked for 8 years. With these adventures behind him, he made the decision to be closer to his children and moved back to Minnesota; where he spent the last 12 years, but he also spent quality time in Iowa as well.
In his 96 years of life, he accomplished a lot. He was a well established oil painter, was very active in the Chamber of Commerce, longtime Rotarian, 64 year member of the Masonic lodge, and was a heavy duty Minnesota Twins fan! Ed lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed it til the end. He will always be remembered for his caring, unselfish ways; his kindness, his smile, and his great sense of humor. Thank you Lord for sharing him with us for 96 years. It was a wonderful ride. Thanks for the memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Melba in 1967, a brother Roland and a sister Helen.
He is survived by his children: Gerry (Carol) Maddox of Reno, Nevada; Michael (Rebecca) Maddox of Bloomington, Minnesota; Patti Winterhof of Aurelia, Iowa; Murray Maddox of St Anthony, Minnesota; Peggy Mosher and her friend Les of Fargo, North Dakota; 12 grandchildren: Corey, Mathew, Nicholas, Eric (Katrina), Nathan (Andrea), Rachel, Erin, Brian, Andy, Justin, Jeremy, Erin A. (Brice); 5 great grandchildren: Maria, Marshall, Alex, Caleb and Gabriel; 2 brothers and 1 sister: Dwight (Donna) Maddox, Dick Maddox and Margaret Roe; also many nieces and nephews.
