EGON L. HANSON, 83, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, April 1, 2012 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 4th, at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jim Steen will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. It was Egon's wishes to be cremated. There will be no visitation. Egon was born on August 22, 1928 at Cherokee, Iowa to Carl & Jennie (Carlson) Hanson. He attended Afton Country School and later Aurelia High School. He was married to Shirley Pfalzgraf on December 29, 1961 at Yankton, South Dakota. He was a lifelong farmer and had also worked at Cherokee Cold Storage for many years, retiring on August 22, 1990. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Egon enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, lawn mowing, and especially the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Henry, Kenneth, Harvey and Raymond; one sister Judy and one grandson Jared Hanson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; his seven children: Roger (Pam) Hanson of Blue River, Wisconsin; Pam (Larry) Maxwell of Cherokee, Iowa; Lynn Smith of Cherokee, Iowa; Michael Hanson of Powell, Wyoming; Jeffrey (L.J.) Hanson of Truesdale, Iowa; Danny (Theda) Hanson of Lothian, Maryland; Sandra (Kenny) Frank of Cherokee, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
