ELAINE J. TRAPP, 82, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday evening, December 23, 2013 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Elaine was born October 6, 1931 in Afton Township, Cherokee Co., Iowa to Frank and Mildred (Mann) Gerjets. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1949. She was married to Leo Trapp on May 15, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple resided in southern California where her husband worked in Long Beach. She moved back to Iowa in 1967, residing on a farm south of Aurelia, moving to Cherokee in 1992. Elaine loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo on January 30, 2007,a brother Max Gerjets, 3 nephews, Steven Gerjets, Daniel McComb and Steve Behrens, brothers-in-law Filmore Nelson and Don Leonard.
She is survived by two sons; Bruce Trapp of Cherokee, Iowa; Blake Trapp of Aurelia, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Matt (Rose) Schwanz of Cherokee, Iowa, Dawn (Andy) Staver of Cherokee, Iowa, James Trapp of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren; Tyler, Brandon, Peyton & Allison Schwanz, Ember & Lane Staver; 4 sisters; Marcella Nelson of Cherokee, Iowa, Betty Leonard of Bullhead City, Arizona, Mary Ann McComb of Lake Wales, Florida, Norma (Dean) Mongan of Cherokee, Iowa, Don (Carol) Gerjets of Cherokee, Iowa, sister-in-law Mary Ann Gerjets Miller of Cherokee, Iowa, several nieces and nephews.
