ELEANOR E. CARLSON, 90, of Meriden, Iowa passed away Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Clint Hogrefe will officiate. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Eleanor was born December 7, 1923 at Paullina, Iowa to Ole and Gertie (Anderson) Larson. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1941. She was married to Lloyd E. Carlson on June 21, 1947 on the family farm, near Paullina, Iowa. The couple farmed in Sheridan Township for many years. Eleanor was an author and poet, a loving and hard working farm wife. She was a longtime member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa, Women's Missionary Society, was a Sunday School teacher and helped with Bible School. She had published a book titled "Memories of My Childhood" and a book of poetry titled "Thoughts in Verse". Eleanor belonged to the Famous Poets Society, Library of Poetry and the Iowa Poetry Association. She also wrote poems for funerals for many dear friends. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, going to cattle shows and the outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd on July 1, 1990, a brother Eldon Larson, sisters Alice Ludwig, Annette Mortenson and Jeanette Kletschke.
She is survived by her three children; Dr. Mark Carlson and his wife Janice of Cherokee, Iowa; Bradley Carlson and his wife Rhonda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota ; Cindy Mogensen and her husband Delmer of Cleghorn, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; Dr. Brittnia (Luke) Stowater of Cherokee, Iowa; Michael (Jamie) Carlson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Carey (Jason) Ducommun of Larrabee, Iowa; Rebecca Brunsting of Cherokee, Iowa; Christy (Bradly) Gotto of Delano, Minnesota; Brandon Mogensen of Golden Valley, Minnesota; 8 great grandchildren; Jaden, Drew and Adrie Ducommun; Mitchell, Raegen, and Brooklyn Brunsting; William and Hudson Gotto; one sister Arlene DeJong of Kennewick, Washington; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
