ELEANOR M. LUNDELL, 94, of Paullina, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, February 29, 2016 in the Countryside Estates at Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5th, at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, north of Meriden, Iowa. Rev. Jonathan Caldwell and Rev. Ryan Petersen will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Eleanor was born on March 21, 1921 at Cleghorn, Iowa to Elmer & Mabel (Anderson) Wester. She attended Liberty Township #3 Country School and graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1939. She was married to Burton Lundell on June 11, 1943 at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. Eleanor had worked for Dr. Fleig's dentist office in Cherokee, Dr. Hayne in Paullina, also at Hatfield and Lemke's grocery store in Paullina. She and her husband farmed in O'Brien County for 30 years; they owned and operated the Lundell Department Store in Paullina for 15 years and they also owned High Fashion Fabrics in Cherokee for many years until selling the store and retiring.
She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church; taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in the women's ministry.
She enjoyed playing various games with family and friends. She loved vacationing each summer in her trailer at Lake Okoboji.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burton on February 23, 1980, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Roy Wester, Dale & Pat Wester, Vernon & Ruby Wester; brother-in-law Robert Mortenson.
She is survived by three sisters and one brother: Lorraine Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; Rev. Merle & Eleda Wester of Cherokee, Iowa; Evelyn & Karl Kludas of Cherokee, Iowa; Jeanette & Larry Johnson of Meriden, Iowa; sister-in-law Elsie Wester of Cherokee, Iowa; 26 nieces and nephews; 57 great nieces and nephews.
