ELGIE M. ISACKSON, 99, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday evening, January 25, 2017 in the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehabilitation Center in Aurelia, Iowa following a brief illness.
Family services will be held on Friday, February 3rd at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Elgie was born on July 17, 1917 in Larrabee, Iowa to Fred & Louise (Collins) Gilbert. She grew up in Larrabee and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1934. She attended Business College in Sioux City and worked as a bookkeeper for the Gamble's Store in Sioux City for several years. Later she worked for the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for eighteen years, retiring in 1979. She married Rene Isackson in 1942. He died in 1984. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Elgie enjoyed flower gardening, Bible study and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Barbara Denton in 2005, two sisters Helen Curran and Doris Bach, a brother Keith Gilbert.
She is survived by two daughters and one son: Judy King of Firestone, Colorado; Gwen Birkey of Tampa, Florida; Dale (Denise) Isackson of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
