Obituary

ELIZABETH M.  "BETTY"  AMMONS, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18 th , at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Betty was born on September 21, 1925 at Turin, Iowa to Alfred & Vivian (Cripe) Porter. She attended schools in Alta, Castana, and Fairview, Iowa, moving to Cherokee in the 1930's. She was married to Forrest "Bud" Ammons on December 3, 1945 at Cherokee, Iowa. Betty and her husband lived their entire married life in Cherokee. They were active in raising and showing Quarter Horses.

Betty was a flower lover, and enjoyed sharing them with others. She enjoyed her owl collection, family gatherings, and playing cards with family and friends. She loved people and did lots of volunteer work and was always willing to help others.

Betty was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Past Church Circle President of 18 years and Past President of the U.M.W.; a member L.A. Wescott Post #2253 Auxiliary, being a Past President; Military Order of the Cootie, being a Past President; and Past President of Sac Fox #35. She was a Past V.F.W. District President. She retired from all her active affairs in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Step-Father Vivian and Roy Roberts, her husband Bud on October 2, 1976, an infant son Larry, a sister Ruby (Glen) Strandberg, brothers Charles (Ione), Albert, Wilbert, Lawrence and Richard Sievert; brothers-in-law Robert Schnetter and Ivan Larimer; nephews Henry Schnetter and Paul Darnell.

She is survived by a brother Wayne Sievert of Murfreesboro, TN.; two sisters: Malvena Schnetter of Alta, Iowa; Marian Larimer of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: Connie Sievert of Ankeny, Iowa and Lois Sievert of Alta, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews; special friends: Jan Cook and Caroline Jensen of Cherokee, Iowa.
