Obituary
ELMER H. PETERSEN, 95, of Sutherland, Iowa passed away Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 in the Sutherland Care Center.
Private family services will be held. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Elmer was born on April 24, 1919 at Primghar, Iowa to Nicholas & Wilhelmina (Brandt) Petersen. He graduated from Primghar High School in 1936. He was married to Aleene B. Innes on April 6, 1941 at Paullina, Iowa. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Force. Elmer was a pilot, flying the B-17's serving as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the Sutherland American Legion. He farmed most of his life, farming with his son Hollis. Family was a very important part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mildred Nelson of Primghar, Iowa, Erna Nelson of Austin, Minnesota and a granddaughter Brooke Lynn Petersen in 1981.
He is survived by his wife: Aleene "Dolly" Petersen of Sutherland, Iowa; his son Hollis Petersen of Sutherland, Iowa and a grandson Justus Petersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
