Obituary

ELSIE B. CHAPMAN, 97, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Meriden, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, November 29, 2010 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Daniel Houghtaling will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Elsie was born on September 27, 1913 at Cherokee, Iowa to Arthur & Belle (Leeds) Mosier. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1932. She was married to Vere Chapman on October 8, 1932 at Dakota City, Nebraska. She and her husband farmed most of their married life in Cherokee County. She resided at Careage Hills Care Center for the past year. Prior to this, she had resided at Country Side Estates Assisted Living for five years and before that, was a long time Meriden, Iowa resident. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed her flowers, playing the piano, spending time with her family, playing table games, cooking and collecting recipes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vere on July 20, 1999, sister Evelyn McLaughlin, brothers Orville Mosier, Raynor Mosier, & Floyd Mosier, sons-in-law George Yaros and Adrian Welch.

She is survived by her five children: Barbara Welch of Clark, Missouri; Dolores Yaros of Lakewood, New Jersey; Dan Chapman and his wife Linda of Meriden, Iowa; Jim Chapman and his wife Eta of Albia, Iowa; Linda Widicker and her husband Rodney of Bowdon, North Dakota; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
