EMILY M. OLSON, 97, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Larry Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Emily was born April 27, 1913 to Ben H. and Ruth (Wyatt) Phipps. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1931. She was married to Leonard E. Olson on November 16, 1934 at Storm Lake, Iowa. Emily had lived in Cherokee most of her life. She had worked for Baumann's Bakery for a number of years and was the bookkeeper for Olson Transfer for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Hawkeye Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, craftwork and attending activities of the grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard on May 11, 2002, a son Jack Olson in 2010 and a brother Marvin Phipps and a sister Marie Phipps.

She is survived by one daughter, Janne Johnson and her husband Ron of Cherokee, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Dorothy Olson of Cherokee, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Keisha (Rick) Todd of Holstein, Iowa; Keila (Mark) Gleinke) of Alta, Iowa; Kerisa (Wayne) Pingel of Cherokee, Iowa; Julie (Mike) Resch of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Aimee (Aaron) Kohn of Pipestone, Minnesota; Lisa (Daryl) Ducommun of Larrabee, Iowa; 15 great grandchildren: Emily, Nicholas & Jennifer Resch; Alex, Cameron & Bailee Kohn; Dawson & Danika Ducommun; Steven & Andrew Zarr; Chayce & Jack Glienke; Cale, Wyatt and Levi Pingel; also several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law on the Olson side of the family.
