Eric was a farmer at heart. He loved getting into the fields in the spring and even more so enjoyed watching his crops grow. He also loved his cows and could hardly wait for that first calf to hit the ground. A highlight was the year he had triplets. He could spend a lot of time just watching them all in the pasture. Eric loved farming with his two-son-laws. He would often remark that he "thanked God every day for those boys."
Eric was a girl dad. Oh, how he loved his girls. He enjoyed watching them in activities when possible but really enjoyed showing horses with them. He definitely passed on his love of horses to his girls. We spent many weekends in the summer getting ready for shows. He even donned a pink western shirt to show lead-line. He found it hard to say no to his girls for anything.
Along with the girls came 3 amazing sons-in-law and 6 grandchildren. He was always good for a tractor ride, to help them get into the combine or show them a new calf. We also traveled to watch various sporting events for the grandkids. They always made him smile.
Eric loved the outdoors. Whether it be fishing in a local pond or his favorite hunting trips to Wyoming. He shared this love of the outdoors with family through yearly trips to the Black Hills. From hiking to ATV's through the trails to seeing buffalo at arms length. As a family, we got to share in this with him and see it through his eyes. It was a trip we all looked forward to.
Among those missing him are five Yorkies. They counted on him for chicken parties before bedtime and then having them take over his side of the bed and his pillow. If he forgot the chicken, he was quickly reminded. Also, his Bernese Mountain dogs loved "hugging" him and the romps Eric would take them on. Rides in the truck also happened frequently and they'd beg for treats when hitting their destination. They also loved sitting on his lap.
Those left to miss Eric terribly are his wife, Lisa, of 38 years. Daughters and sons-in-law, Allison and Robert Johnson, Caitlin and Steven Schnoor and Madison and Zachary Miedema. Grandchildren that he so adored, Taye, Quincy, Daylen and Carter Johnson and Gavin and Brynlee Schnoor. Also surviving him are his father, Verdell Johnson, siblings, Elizabeth Johnson and Everett (Julie) Johnson. A sister-in-law, Melanie (Curt) Patton. Nephews and a niece, Spencer Patton, Jennifer and David Johnson.
