Obituary
ERMA SANER JOHNSON, 101, of Marcus, Iowa and former Cherokee resident, passed away Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning at the funeral home with the family present one hour prior to service time. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Erma Margaret Brownmiller was born April 23, 1911 to James Arthur and Margaret Amelia (Williams) Brownmiller on the family farm in Rock Township, Cherokee Co., Iowa, south of Cleghorn. She attended Country School through the eighth grade. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee.
On November 25, 1937 she married Bernard Joseph Saner. They made their home in Marcus. Ben passed away on September 24, 1963. She made her own way in life by babysitting.
In April of 1976, she sold her home and moved to Ridgeview Village in Cherokee. There she met and married Glen Johnson on May 5, 1981. He passed away on December 2, 1988. She again made her own way with the help of her family and friends.
Erma had a stroke on March 1, 2001 and subsequently moved to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Erma loved being a homemaker and taking care of her children and grandchildren, music with a little "jip to it," senior citizens, Bingo, and the activities at Heartland. She loved to laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, and brothers Sherrill (Mary) Brownmiller and Cyril (Audrey) Brownmiller.
She is survived by her children; Eugene and Mary Saner of Viroqua, WI.; Ervina and Gerald Scott of Cleghorn, IA; grandchildren: Dean (Jackie) Saner and Emily and Sam of Viroqua; Darren (Robin) Saner, Lauren, Carolyn and Madelyn of Rochester, MN.; Todd (Jenny) Saner, Abby and Meredith of Onalaska; WI; Vicki (Nate) Hoogeveen, Thor, and Dane of Des Moines, IA; Cara (Mike) Lubeck, Riley and Carli of Cherokee, IA; step grandson Tom and Karen Scott of Lindstrom, MN; step-granddaughters Maggie and Abby Lubeck of Cherokee, IA.
