ERNEST O. "ERNIE" KLINGBORG, 73, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Private family services will be held.  Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ernie was born on July 9, 1950 to Oscar and Leoma (Rector) Klingborg at Cherokee, Iowa.  He attended Willow Schools in Quimby and graduated in 1968.  He went on to attend Iowa Tech in Sioux City.  He was a member of the Iowa Reserves.

When Ruby Jean Webster met Ernie, she knew there was something special about him and he became the love of her life.  He was the kind of person who would help anybody.  They were united in marriage on November 22, 1972 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa.

Ernie began driving truck for Rick Stevenson before beginning his career at Hy-Vee Warehouse.  He drove for over 2 million safe miles, being the first Cherokee truck driver to earn his coveted Black Truck.  He also earned his Gold Truck for 1 million safe miles.  He retired from Hy-Vee in 2017. He also had a love for farming and bred purebred Angus running sales at the Cherokee Fair Grounds and with the Bleil & Chapman Livestock Auction.  He retired from farming in 2006 but still was very active working with his son, Nathan running parts, truck driving for cattle and was Nathan's right hand.

Ernie loved the outdoors and doing farm work with Nathan and the grandkids, especially helping Levi and Tori with the bottle calves.  He loved driving his John Deere green tractors and his four wheeler.  In his younger years, he would ride his motorcycle.  Ernie looked forward to family vacations in the summer with notable trips to Colorado, Disneyland, Cutty's in Okoboji, the Black Hills, and Deadwood, South Dakota.   He enjoyed going gambling and playing blackjack.   Ernie was a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan.  He liked going golfing and playing cards.  He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Ernie was affiliated with the Quimby Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepsister, Betty Palmer.

Ernie will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Ruby of Quimby, Iowa; children, Brian Klingborg, Jeanie (Randy) Lawrey of Cherokee, Iowa, and Nathan (Missy) Klingborg of Quimby, Iowa; three grandchildren, Levi Klingborg, Tori Mauseth, and Josh (Trinity) Mauseth; and brother Victor Klingborg.
