Erwin Andrew Mogensen, age 96, and Jennie Josephine Raper Mogensen, age 98 of Cleghorn, Iowa, both passed into glory on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Erwin early Thursday morning and Jennie later that afternoon at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral services for Erwin and Jennie Mogensen will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastors Larry Ostercamp and Nelson Jenkins will officiate. Private family burial will be held in the Meriden Cemetery at Meriden, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. Those attending visitation are asked to use the West Entrance at the church. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. Erwin Andrew Mogensen was born to Andrew and Felicitas (Litza) Bergman Mogensen on July 31, 1929 at Cherokee, Ia. He graduated from Meriden School in 1948.
Erwin married Jennie Raper at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Ia on August 27, 1950. They became residents of Cleghorn on August 30, 1950. He worked with his father, Andrew Mogensen, in carpentry. He formed Mogensen Construction which operated until 1992 when his son Delmer took over the business, working in and around NW Cherokee County and also owned and operated Cleghorn Lumber Co. from 1970 to 1987. He served from January 1962 through 1983 as a Cleghorn City Council member, Mayor Pro-Tem and Mayor of Cleghorn. He was also a long-term member of the Cleghorn Lions Club.
Erwin gave generously of his time and talents in the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, serving in many offices of the church. He assisted in the building of a new facility in 1960 – 1964, the parsonage in 1978, the Family Life Center in 2001 followed by the completion of the office and large Foyer, a conference room and youth room along the East attached to the Family Life Center in 2006. He enjoyed time spent with his family.
He was survived by his wife, Jennie, one son Delmer (Cindy) Mogensen of Cleghorn, Iowa, and two daughters, Mary Lynn (Lauren) Glasser of Orange City, Iowa and Janine (Greg) Daugherty of Omaha, Nebraska. 10 grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Plendl, Mark (Heather) Glasser, Carey (Jason) Ducommun, Rebecca (Doyle) Kruger, Christy (Brad) Gotto, Brandon (Heidi) Mogensen, Bret (Lianne) Daughtery, Jill (Joe) Albright, and Nathan (fiancé Lydia) Daugherty, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother, Irma (Richard) Flick, Mary Ann (L.D.) Curry, Roger and (Margaret) Mogensen, Patricia (Ronald) Rahn.
Jennie was born the daughter of Fred and Lucy (McCormack) Raper on January 4, 1928 in Spring Township (Twp), Cherokee County, Sutherland, Iowa. She graduated from Spring Twp #2 from 8th grade, then graduated from Sutherland School in 1946, and then attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis, MN.
Jennie married Erwin Mogensen on August 27, 1950 at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, Meriden, Iowa. They were lifelong residents of Cleghorn, Iowa, where she worked at Cleghorn State Bank, retiring in Sept 1951, to raise her family and support her husband as bookkeeper for Mogensen Construction and Cleghorn Lumber Yard. In 1987, she worked for Wurth Hardware in Marcus, Iowa for five years until her retirement.
Jennie generously gave of her talents to the church where she was pianist and organist for 50 years, taught Sunday School and gave of her time in several other offices in the church and in FCWM and White Cross.
She is survived by one son Delmer [Cindy] Mogensen of Cleghorn, Iowa, and two daughters Mary Lynn [Lauren] Glasser of Orange City, Iowa and Janine [Greg] Daugherty of Omaha, Nebraska. 10 grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Plendl, Mark (Heather) Glasser, Carey (Jason) Ducommun, Rebecca (Doyle) Kruger, Christy (Brad) Gotto, Brandon (Heidi) Mogensen, Bret (Lianne) Daughtery, Jill (Joe) Albright, and Nathan (fiancé Lydia) Daugherty, 24 Great Grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Mogensen, her parents, four brothers and their spouses, Lester [Helen] Raper, John [June] Raper, Charles [Angela] Raper, and Paul [Bonnie] Raper. Two sisters and their spouses, Arlina [Marvin] Davis and Mary Louise [George] Gibson. Three sister-in-laws, Irma (Richard) Flick, Mary Ann (L.D.) Curry, and Patricia (Ronald) Rahn. One brother-in-law, Roger (Margaret) Mogensen.
