Esther LaVanche (Stevenson) Huset, 88, of Leroy Township, Ohio, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 21, 2010.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Quimby Cemetery in Quimby, Iowa. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate. She was born in Quimby, Iowa to Clarence and Elsie (Untiedt) Stevenson. A selfless and devoted mother with a passion for family and country, she often traveled to see her children and grandchildren, including trips to Europe, where she traced family history. She enjoyed flower, herb and vegetable gardening and had a passion for music, which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included macrame, sewing and quilting, with several of her pieces receiving blue ribbons at the South Dakota State Fair. LaVanche will be remembered as a woman who loved to laugh and have fun with her family and friends. She had been a member of the League of Women Voters, the Red Hat Society, Leroy Garden Club and Thompson United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn R. Huset.

She is survived by her children: Steven Huset of Pierre, South Dakota; Mike Huset of Butte, Montana; Terri (Charles) Semmler of Chugiak, Alaska; and Glynn (Hap) Howle of Leroy Township, Ohio; sisters: Eloise Huyink of Canon Falls, Minnesota; Betty (Paul) Fassler of Cleghorn, Iowa; and Jo (Dick) Kirwan of Santa Ana, California; grandchildren: Erik (Dawn) Howle, Jeff (Cecelia Leach) Howle, Kris (Erin) Howle, Kirk (Cindy) Howle, Jessica (John) Della Croce, Becca (Todd) Carroll, and Bart (Andrea) Semmler.
