EVA M. NELSON, 91, of Quimby, Iowa passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Country Side Estates in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6th, at 2 p.m. at the Quimby United Methodist Church. Rev. Richard Layman will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the Church on Monday. The casket will not be open at the Church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Eva was born April 29, 1918 at Larabee, Iowa to Edward & Elmirah (Smith) St. John. She grew up and and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1936. She was married to Albin Nelson on April 22, 1940 at LeMars, Iowa. The couple had lived in Larrabee until 1945, in Meriden from 1945 until 1951, in Washta from 1951 until 1960 and in Quimby from 1960 until 2009. She had worked for Swanson's Grocery in Larrabee, ran a Raleigh Route, worked at the Hartley Creamery in Cherokee, Brown's Grocery Store Meat Department in Quimby and for the Washta and Quimby Community Schools in the lunchroom. The couple had farmed for many years, moving to Quimby in 1963. She and her husband also mowed several cemeteries and had an upholstery business. Eva was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Red Hats Society, Slim Jennys, had served on the Quimby Town Council, booked and cleaned for the Quimby Community Center. She enjoyed coffee every morning with the coffee group, fishing, knitting, woodworking and going to auctions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albin on November 3, 1999; a great grandson Skyler Todd, 3 brothers Prentiss, Ronald and Dwight St. John and one sister Opal St. John
She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter: Dennis Nelson and his wife Cindy of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Larry Nelson and his wife Marilyn of Quimby, Iowa; Patty Nelson of Quimby, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and their spouses: Bret (Jannelle) Nelson, Jill (Ted) Whitson, RaeAnn Nelson and her special friend Justin, Larry D. Nelson, Bradley (Dedra) Nelson, Dawn M. Nelson, Deb Massey and special friend Erin Sapp, Karen (Roger) Askvig Jr., 14 great-grandchildren: Sam Nelson, Brady Todd, Tayler Todd, Caitlyn Todd, Mychael Nelson, Kristopher Nelson, Dakota Nelson, Stetson Nelson, Hunter Nelson, A. J. Cates, Felica Cates, Kristin Cater, Roger Askvig III, Krystal Askvig, nieces, nephews and many friends.
