EVANGALENE JENNESS, 80, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon and Sanborn, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26th at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Merrill G. Muller of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at rural Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Evangalene was born on November 1, 1928 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Jonas and Evelyn (Smith) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Virgil V. Jenness on April 24, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this marriage three children were born, Marvin, Darla and Maureen. Evangalene grew up in the Cherokee area and after her marriage she and her husband moved and farmed in the Primghar and Sanborn area for many years. After retirement she moved to Sheldon and the last four years she resided at Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City, Iowa. Evangalene assisted her husband on their farm. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years; which she thoroughly enjoyed. Evangalene was a sweet lady with a beautiful smile and loved spending time with her family. She loved to entertain the family at holidays and would bake enough goodies to last well beyond the holidays. She liked to crochet, square dance, play cards and pick strawberries at her mother's house.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil on December 7, 1998, a son-in-law Dave Lee, a sister Leona Koeppen, brothers Merlin and Espy Johnson, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Reta & August Fuhrman, Oliver & Marcella Jenness, Erwin Jenness, Geraldine & Paul Roby, Howard Jenness and Marlin Jenness.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: Marvin Jenness of Sioux Falls, Darla Jenness of Sheldon, Iowa; Maureen Lee and her special friend John Masterson of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren: Matthew Lee and his wife Traci of Colfax, Iowa; Melinda Schoenherr and her husband Jeremiah of Sioux City, Iowa and Joshua Lee and his girlfriend Adrienne Benson of Mitchell, SD.; great grandchildren Makenzie Schoenherr, Emily Schoenherr, Taydom Schoenherr, Aden Lee and Audrey Benson; her sisters, Lorraine Plantz and her husband Roger of LeMars, Iowa, Velma Keats and her husband George of Chino Valley, Arizona , Arlene Nagel of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Harlan Koeppen of Sioux City, Iowa; Glenda Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; Ruby & Lester Webb of Cherokee, Iowa; Merritt & Velma Jenness of Marcus, Iowa; Lois Pflugrad of Port Angeles, Washington; Berna Jenness of Cherokee, Iowa, Armeda Jenness of Kingsley, Iowa; Carla Jenness of LeMars, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
