EVELYN M. BIRKMAN, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8th, at 10 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa.

Evelyn was born September 23, 1918 in Blue Hill, Maine to Edwin and Phoebe (Howard) Carter. She attended school in Brooksville, Maine. She was married to Kenneth August Birkman on December 8, 1945. She had worked in a blueberry factory in Maine, did babysitting for several families and worked as a waitress in various restaurants. Evelyn was born and raised in Maine, moving to Iowa in 1945. She had lived in Cherokee for many years, prior to this in Larrabee and Paullina, Iowa. She loved her two cats Suzy and Midnight.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth Birkman, a son Carlton Birkman; also several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter Ann Carter of Ellsworrth, Maine, two grandchildren Roree andRoy, a brother Malcolm Carter of Sedgewick, Maine, also many nieces and nephews.
