EVELYN M. BURNS, 82, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Visitation for the public will be from1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Private family services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Ida Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Evelyn was born February 22, 1928 at Omro, Wisconsin to Arthur and Sophie Mae (Smith) Krayenhagen. She attended country school near Quimby, Iowa. She was married to Dewey Robert Burns on June 14, 1947 at Ida Grove, Iowa. She had lived in Cherokee since October of 2000, prior to this in Ida Grove and had also lived at Lytton and Sanborn. She had worked as a waitress, a secretary, and as a lab technician for the A & P Creamery in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Ida Grove, Iowa. She enjoyed golfing, dancing, sewing, cooking and especially being a grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob on January 22, 2001, brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett & Viola Krayenhagen and Earl Krayenhagen, a sister Verna Krayenhagen; sister and brother-in-law, Irene & Frank Williams, a sister-in-law Bonita Crawford.
She is survived by one daughter: Linda Lou Ruschmann of Cherokee, Iowa; two sons: Steven Robert Burns and his wife Doneta of Parkersburg, Iowa, Kevin Lee Burns and his wife Sandra of Raymore, Missouri, four grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two more great grandchildren on the way; two sisters-in-law Fern Krayenhagen of Battle Creek, Iowa and Doreen Miller of Ida Grove, Iowa
