Evelyn Jane Tropp was born on October 15, 1924, to William and Lydia (Wessel) Lill in a farmhouse at the very Northwest tip of Crawford County in the state of Iowa. Their mailing address was Danbury, Iowa.

Evelyn grew up to the age of less than 16 years old when during the Depression they could no longer keep the farm.  Evelyn enjoyed the farm and often was her father's assistant.  When she attended country school, she was sworn in by the County Superintendent as a substitute teacher at the age of 12 years old.  Evelyn attended and graduated school in Sheldon, Iowa.  She also was a left-handed pitcher on a softball team and learned to drive the car at an early age.

In the early spring of 1941, she moved to Cherokee, Iowa and worked for a restaurant as a waitress.  She also worked in a radio factory for Otis Radio Co.  Evelyn worked as a silk finisher in a dry cleaning business for Howard and Viola Maffin.  This is where Evelyn met her husband, Eugene Tropp.  They were married in Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Cherokee, Iowa, in early 1952.  To this union a daughter was born, Linda Sue.

Evelyn was left a widow in the spring of 1953.  She wasn't interested in remarrying but doing her duty raising their daughter, Linda.  She also was an assistant in Iowa as a 4-H leader and manager over a night shift at Randall's Café in Cherokee.  Wanting to become independent she attended Beauty College at Storm Lake, Iowa. After graduating at the age of 52, she lived a short while in Minnesota to keep her daughter and husband's farm from being vandalized while they were in Alaska.  Evelyn had her own beauty shop in Lawton, Iowa, later moving to Missouri where she was an assistant manager in a beauty shop.

Her hobbies were many, such as cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, making her own patterns, and drawing.  She enjoyed her daughter and lived going to church. She was a secretary for five years to the Women's Mission Federation at church.  She also enjoyed visiting friends and keeping in touch with relatives.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, William Lill (June 1950); her husband, Eugene Tropp (March 1953); her mother, Lydia Lill (November 1977) and her half sister, Gladys Schmidt (August 2007). She was confirmed on October 9, 1938 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Soldier Township at Charter Oak, Iowa.  She attended Country School and later attended and graduated from the Storm Lake School of Hair Styling. Evelyn worked as a beautician in Storm Lake and Lawton, Iowa for several years, before moving to Alexandria, Minnesota. She was married to Eugene Tropp. He passed away on March 18, 1953.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene Tropp, and her half-sister Gladys Lill.

She is survived by her daughter and a few cousins.
