Evelyn F. McCleerey, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away, Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2009, in the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21st, at 10:30 a.m. at the St Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Evelyn was born on March 22, 1922 at Quimby, Iowa to Jay & Vera (Huston) Bennett. She was married to Clarence McCleerey on April 9, 1938 at Vermillion, South Dakota. She had worked for Boeing Aircraft while living out in the state of Washington and had also lived in the state of Oregon prior to retirement. She had been a resident of Cherokee the past 29 years, prior to this she had lived Aurelia, Iowa for several years. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, music and dancing, playing cards, doing craftwork, volunteering at the nursing homes and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on April 22, 1989, a great grandson and one brother Orlan Bennett.

She is survived by her three children: Coleen Truxell of Cherokee, Iowa; Thomas McCleerey and his wife Karla of Denison, Iowa; Dennis McCleerey of Seattle, Washington;
4 grandchildren; Monte and Tammy McCleerey and their children Megan and Amanda of Norwalk, Iowa; Scott and Lori McCleerey and their children Gary and Gregory of Condon, Montana; Jeff and Shari Wetherell and their children Jessica, Vicki and Robbie of Fairfield, Iowa; Melody Rowan and her children Niccole, Joshua and Daniel of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother Darrell Bennett and his wife Harriet of Lincoln, Nebraska.
