Obituary

Evert E. "Jr." Larsen, 74, of Cherokee, Iowa died peacefully at the Cherokee Villa Saturday morning, January 16, 2016 following a long battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 20th, at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. He was born November 30, 1941 in Sioux City, Ia. To Evert and Pauline (Paulsen) Larsen.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He graduated from Kingsley High School in 1960. Following graduation he worked a variety of jobs including Maple Valley Feeds, Chesterman Co., and Bohlen's Grocery in Aurelia, Walnut Grove and Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee before retiring in 2002 due to failing health. He married Pat Scheelhaase on June 9, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Four children were born from this union, Tim, Todd, Tyler & Tami.


On September 20, 1975 Evert married Janet (Lindgren) Beck at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Through this union they were blessed with one child, Paul. Jr's hobbies and interests included riding horses in his younger years, bowling, shooting pool, throwing horse shoes, target shooting, collecting and shooting guns, watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He had a special place in his heart for all his grandchildren and his new great granddaughter. He was also associated with the Cherokee Reserve Law Officers and was Past President of the Iowa State Reserve Law Officers Association, was an EMT for 17 years. He enjoyed helping his nephew, Gary Rupp on the farm each year and loved his John Deere tractors.

Survivors include Tim (Lynette) Larsen, Owen and Erik of Belleville, Wi., Todd (Tina) Larsen, Tasha and Trever of Cherokee, Tyler (Deb) Larsen, Allie, Zach and Megan of Sumner, Ia., Tami (Mark) Grace, Travis and Brooke Hoeppner of Early, Paul Larsen of Cherokee, Trenton and Brett and Kelsey (Jeremey) Mersch and their daughter Nevaeh. Other survivors include sisters Darlene Hansen of Sterling, Ill., Diana (Fred) Stieneke of Cherokee, mother-in-law Marguerite Osterling of Cherokee, brother-in-law Floyd Rupp of Sioux City, sisters-in-law, Anita (Larry) Tuttle of Spirit Lake, Elaine French of Sutherland and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife Janet of 38 years on March 31, 2014; parents, grandparents, brother Larry, sister Delores Rupp, brothers-in-law, Edward Yucas, Charles "Butts" Hansen, father- in-law Gunnar Osterling; nieces and nephews.
