MYRTLE "FERN" PETLON, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, August 27, 2012 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 13 days.
Funeral services held Thursday, August 30th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Elders Rod & Bev Simpson of the Ames, Iowa Community of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Fern was born April 14, 1915 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Irvin Glenn. and Lulu Inez (Crippen) Hahn. She attended country school and graduated from Aurelia Community Schools in 1932. She was married to Willard Dale Petlon on February 22, 1940 at her parent's home in Afton Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in Buena Vista and Cherokee Counties for many years, moving to Aurelia on November 10, 1989. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Cherokee. She was also a member of the Friendship Club, Birthday Club and Afton Community Club. Fern taught Sunday School for many years, was active in the women's work at her church and loved to work in her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard on March 13, 1997, and her sister and brother-in-law Lois and Paul Stieneke
She is survived by her daughter Jolene Petlon Jacob and her husband Roger of Nevada, Iowa; two grandchildren; Janae Bowen and her husband Glen of Waukee, Iowa; Christopher Jacob and his special friend Alexandrea Ackerman of Ankeny, Iowa.
