FERN L. SLEEZER, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday evening, February 21, 2011 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Fern was born on August 31, 1919 at George, Iowa to Elmer & Lena (Schuler) Spear. Fern attended Laurens Consolidated School and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Wayne W. Sleezer on December 30, 1941 at the Methodist Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She worked at Lumous Produce in Cherokee, secretary at Lincoln Elementary School in Cherokee from 1969-1983, and was the bookkeeper and secretary for Sleezer Roofing. She retired in 1983. She had lived in Cherokee most of her life and also in Laurens for 14 years and two years at George, Iowa. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Bridge Club, Tone Circle, and sang in the church choir. She volunteered at the Cherokee Archives, enjoyed reading, genealogy, fishing, gardening and stamp collecting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne on April 30, 2000, her sister Ferol Phipps in 1981, also several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her two sons: Roger Sleezer and his wife Janet of Cherokee, Iowa and Paul Sleezer of Cherokee, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Jeffrey Sleezer of Storm Lake, Iowa, Warren Sleezer and his wife Deb of Henderson, Nevada; Aaron Sleezer and his wife Susan of Leesburg, Virginia; Sara Henke and her husband Scott of Chicago, Illinois; 6 great grandchildren: Alicia, Jeff, Cole, Savannah, Kathryn & Kyle, a brother-in-law Junior Martin Sleezer of Claremont, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews.
