FORREST H." FROSTY" SMITH, 96, of Cherokee and former long time Larrabee area resident, passed away Thursday morning, June 17, 2010 at Country Side Estates in Cherokee following a 3 day illness.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 21st at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Renee AuMiller will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday with the family present from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. On line condolences may be left www.boothbyfuneral.com

Forrest was born on September 4, 1913 in Grand Meadow Township, Cherokee, County, Iowa to Harry & Blanche (Pixler) Smith. He attended Grand Meadow Schools. He was married to Leona Morton on November 16, 1936 at Storm Lake, Iowa. To this union, two daughters were born Janet and Karen.

Forrest was a farm hand; the family living on the Montgomery farm, 1/2 mile south of Larrabee for 55 years. Forrest saw many changes in farming with horses to tractors with cabs. He enjoyed life, loved riding horses, bowling, and working in his workshop. He created many things from wood. Leona would design them and he would make it. His daughters and grandchildren have many treasures made by their Grandpa. He moved from the farm to Assisted Living for 1 year, then moved to the nursing home. He was a member of the Larrabee United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leona on December 8, 2004, 2 sons-in-law Paul Schimmer in 1983 and Lester Donaldson in 2000, 4 brothers Oscar, Bert, Ralph and Earl; 3 sisters Pearl Dwyer, Eleanor Kintigh and Bonnie McCannon.

He is survived by his two daughters: Janet Kay Schimmer of Storm Lake, Iowa; Karen Lee Donaldson of Cleghorn, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: June Raper of Sutherland, Iowa; Anna Belle McKenzie of Collins, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
