FORREST W. VICSTRUM, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31st, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jeff Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Forrest was born September 2, 1918 in Cherokee, Iowa to Peter and Mary (Dolquist) Swanson. He was adopted by Pete and Albertina Vicstrum on May 31, 1923. He attended country school near Alta and Cherokee. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army with the Medical Detachment of the 817th Anti-Air Unit. He was married to M. Pearl Newell on February 14, 1946 at the Alta Methodist Parsonage. Forrest had lived in Cherokee since 1954, prior to this in Alta and Storm Lake. He worked for the State of Iowa for 23 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherokee and had been a church officer. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music, playing cards and Bingo and having coffee with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Mary Swanson, his wife Polly on December 31, 2008, an infant daughter Ruth Ann; brothers Arthur, Ernest, Arvid, Vern and Earl; sisters Sylvia, Hilda and Marie.

He is survived by two daughters; Donna Clark and her husband Dan of Ankeny, Iowa; Patricia Wadsworth Carlson of Milford, Iowa; 4 granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.
