FRANCES M. NIEMEIER, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23rd, at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cehrokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Frances was born on July 4, 1925 to Edward & Ida (Klockow) Roggow at their home in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She grew up on a farm south of Peterson. She was confirmed on September 3, 1939. She attended Brooks Consolidated School and graduated May 18, 1943. She was united in marriage on April 6, 1947 to Lester Niemeier at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee and made their home in Cherokee. Frances moved to Willow Brook Apartments in 2010.
She enjoyed involvement in Church activities such as Martha Circle, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Frances did volunteer work in nursing homes in Cherokee. She also enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances had worked at Druyor's Paint Store and later in food service at Cherokee School System for 19 years, retiring in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Lester in 1975, and infant sister Helen and a granddaughter Jessica Niemeier and a sister Verna Pingel.
She is survived by her two sons; Jerry Niemeier of Cherokee, Iowa, Larry Niemeier of Sioux City, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Josh Niemeier and special friend Lisa, Matt (Kim) Niemeier and their children Taylor & Caleb; Dan (Leah) Niemeier and their son Gavin and a child on the way ; Seth Niemeier and special friend Jessica Grause and their daughter Kiara; Ashlee Niemeier and special friend Josh Mann and their son Cade Mann and twin grandchildren on the way; two sisters-in-law Caroline Niemeier and Ruth (Vertis) Boysen; also several nieces and nephews.
