FRANCIS W. "SKINNER" OLSON, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, November 18, 2017 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Skinner was born on February 22, 1931 at Cherokee, Iowa to Otto & Caroline Hattie (Hoeppner) Olson. He attended Cherokee schools. He was married to Darlene Nothdorf on April 3, 1953 at Dakota City, Nebraska. She passed away on March 17, 1966. He was later married to Patricia Barry on April 19, 1968 at Cherokee, Iowa. He had worked for Swanson's Warehouse and Hy-Vee Warehouse for a total of 33 years, retiring in 1991. After retiring he helped his wife Pat with her daycare business until she retired in 2003.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed fishing, dancing traveling in the Midwest states, and tinkering around in garage collecting nuts and bolts or anything else he thought he might need someday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Darlene, five brothers Merlyn, William"Bill", Donald, Leonard, Harold; seven sisters Clara Williams, Viola Brownmiller, Mary Joyce Olson, Dorothy Olson, Luella Cipperley, Margaret Patris, and Darlene Milbbrodt.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, four children: Mark Olson of Grand Junction, Coloado; Randy (Beth) Olson of Little Rock, Arkansas; Matthew Olson of Spencer, Iowa; Chris (Morey) Carlson of Cherokee, Iowa; Mary Ann (Steve) Lonneman of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters: Virgil Olson of Crystal, Minnesota; Evelyn Scott of Cherokee, Iowa and Anita Nelson of Cherokee, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
