FRANK X. GALLAGHER, 72 , of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Cherokee Specialty Care.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Bill Schoonover will officiate. Military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee Americal Legion will be held outside the funeral home following the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Public visitation with the family present will be on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 at the Boothby Funeral Home. Services will be livestreamed through the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions on the Boothby Funeral Home website. Frank was born on April 15, 1949 to George and Margaret (Granich) Gallagher at Lackawanna, New York. He attended and graduated from Bishop Neumann high School in Williamsville, New York in 1967. Frank attended Niagara University, followed by the University of Wisconsin at Superior with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later his Master's degree in Child Psychology. He served in the U.S. Army from August of 1969 until February of 1972.
Frank married Gerri Hoff on June 18, 1978 at Manly, Iowa. Frank worked for Northwest Area Education Association as a school psychologist from 1976 until retiring in May 2011. He was also a songwriter and novelist. He enjoyed volunteering with the P.A.L.S. group.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Thomas and Robert Gallagher, and brother-in-law George Kilburn.
Frank is survived by his wife, Gerri of Cherokee, Iowa; son Shawn Gallagher and fiancé Rebecca Swanigan of Omaha, Nebraska; siblings Kathy Kilburn of Kenmore, New York, Mark (Linda) Gallagher of Scottsville, New York, and Anne (George) Kilger of Lancaster, New York; also several nieces and nephews.
