Obituary

FRED D. LUKINS, 62, of Holstein, Iowa, passed away Monday evening, September 22, 2014 due to injuries received in a two vehicle accident.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26th, at 10 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jason Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Holstein Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Fred was born on September 15, 1952 at LeMars, Iowa to Loren & Ardis (Urban) Lukins. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1970. He attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School in 1971 and WIT in 1972. He was married to Julie Seablom on August 27, 1971 at the Meadow Star United Methodist Church at rural Washta, Iowa. Fred had worked for Walker Sand & Gravel and Lundell Construction Co. in Cherokee for a few years and then started his own business, Quimby Hoe Company in 1975 and then changed the name to Lukins Construction Co. in 1983, which operated in Quimby until 1988, when he moved the business to Holstein. He was a member of the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Association, a lifetime member of the Quimby Golf Course, the Holstein Country Club, Quimby Tug-O-War, the Quimby Fire Department, the Patriot Guard and was a long time Holstein City Council member. He enjoyed working on his pond, fishing, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law Bud Seablom.

He is survived by his wife Julie of Holstein; three children: Chad (Kristi) Lukins of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cory (Dan) Bendixen of Holstein, Iowa, Crystal (Travis) Jepsen of Sioux City, Iowa four grandchildren: Brittany & Matt Lukins, Joseph Sokolowski and Maggie Bendixen; his mother-in-law Donna Seablom of Pierson, Iowa; his siblings, Dennis (Betty) Lukins of Estherville, Iowa; Linda (Willard) Geiger of Parker, Colorado; Gwen Durston of Loveleand, Colorado; Gerald "Gary" (Jeanette) Lukins of Adel, Iowa; Harold (Bethany) Lukins of Florissant, Missouri; Loren "Willy" (Pam) Lukins of Holstein, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews and friends.
