GALEN R. FLIEAR, 81, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away December 21, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Celebration of Life services will be held Tuesday December 27, 2016 at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Eric Wright officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 10 am to 11 am. Celebration service and lunch to follow. Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. Galen was born July 14, 1935, in Sheldon, Iowa to Arthur & Laura (Theesfield) Fliear. He graduated from Sheldon HS in 1953 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 - 1956 during the Korean conflict. He was married to Sharon Lee Holmes on January 22, 1956 in Whittier, California. Galen worked as a salesman for the Nabisco and Del Monte Foods, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. He loved all kinds of sports, was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, enjoyed golfing and was an ambassador of goodwill.
He is survived by wife Sharon of 60 years, sister Gwenda Stegemann from Sheldon, IA, his two children: Kelly Fliear and wife Jeannine (JJ) of Maui, HI and Karen Robertson of Burnsville, MN. Seven grandchildren, Christine (Pierson), Gordon (Lisa), Jamie (Chris), Kelley, Bridget (Mike), Matt and Megan; Twelve great grandchildren: Jordon, Bryson, Benjamin, Tatiana, Tyce, Devon, Brody, Taye, Maya, Ashton, Tye and Payton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Delbert Fliear, Aletha Salzman, Beverly Fiihr, Dale Fliear, Marlys Loose, and Larry Fliear.
