Obituary

GARY CROUCH , 88, of rural Washta, Iowa passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 27, 2020 at his farm home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa with military rites by the American Legion and L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral home in Cherokee, Iowa. At the visitation it will be limited to 15 people at a time in the funeral home. Gary Allen Crouch was born on February 15, 1932 at Cherokee, Iowa to Ed & Irma (Beazley) Crouch. He graduated from Washta High School in 1949. He then attended Iowa State College graduating with a Degree in Agriculture and Animal Science. He was married to Maxine Conry on September 7, 1952 at Washta, Iowa. Maxine passed away on February 17, 1989. He was later married to Nancy (Nelson) Lenz on December 17, 1993 at Cherokee, Iowa.

Gary had worked at Simonsen's Inc. in Quimby and then farmed on the family farm for many years and raising the family's third generation of cattle which he thoroughly enjoyed. He had also worked at Smith Cattle Farm, Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Lundell's, and OBECO, retiring in 1997. He had been a resident of the Washta area most of his life.

Gary served two years of active duty in the United States Air Force and then spent 20 years in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Major.

He was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church, and the American Legion. He loved raising his cattle, playing cards with the Neighborhood Card Club, and playing poker with his buddies. He enjoyed fishing in his younger years, and was always ready to watch a good baseball game, whether it be Little League kids playing, high school baseball, Sioux City Explorer's, Chicago Cubs or any other team that was playing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Stacey Anne Crouch in 1967, his first wife Maxine, brother and his wife Gregg and Norma Crouch.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of Washta, Iowa; two children: Michael Gary Crouch of Charlestown, Indiana; Amy Maxine Crouch and her husband Steve Tonsfeldt of Remsen, Iowa; three grandchildren: Steven Johnson (Tala Marlin) of Rossie, Iowa; Mackenzie Crouch of Chicago, Illinois; Logan Crouch of Louisville, Kentucky; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
